Using DMVs with Database Tuning Advisor

DMVs / DMFs are supposed to be used now instead of SQL Server Profiler because of resource hogging of Profiler, right?

In that case, could someone point me in the direction of a good article / training on how to use DMVs in checking before and after major changes or a new server. Ie at the moment one would create a trace file via Profiler and run it under different scenarios on a test server via Database Engine Tuning Advisor. How would I do this now using DMVs instead of Profiler (with or without Tuning Advisor - whichever you advise)?
