Understanding lat/long to WGS84 coordinates?

I'm looking for some help with lat/long coordinates for a programming project I'm working on for school. I'm a complete novice at this sort of thing.

I have coordinates in the format 53 57.414N 001 00.719W which is described as "Lat/Long to WGS84". That particular coordinate is just a random one I grabbed from my data. I'm struggling to work out what "Lat/Long to WGS84" actually means because when I researched what WGS84 was, it seemed to be in a different format. For context, these are the coordinates of British Gliding Association waypoints.

To use the coordinates I need them to be in the format I've typically seen with lat/long coordinates which is something like 12.345, 67.890.

Would anyone be able to tell me a method/tool for converting these formats?
