Using alternative words for 'hypothesis', ways of reporting hypothesis testing results

I'm writing a report which features a great deal of hypothesis testing. I'm just wondering whether there are alternate, but still correct, ways of phrasing the results of such testing. I am writing for a non-statistical audience so I would like to phrase things in clear English as far as possible, whilst still being correct.

For example, is it correct, instead of saying 'we can reject the null hypothesis', to say 'we can reject the statement that xyz'? Is it also correct to say 'we can reject the possibility that xyz'?

Does anyone have any other good methods of reporting hypothesis testing results?

Many thanks in advance for your help!
